Welcome to The Friars Inn, Bridgnorth

Situated in Central Court off St. Mary's Street in the historic riverside town of Bridnorth, The Friars Inn is a delightful haven for real ale lovers and anyone who enjoys a relaxed atmosphere. Approached from either the courtyard shopping area or via a passageway from St Mary's Street bedecked with hanging baskets (in summer), the pub is a long narrow shape with an intimate dining area on the left as your enter, a large bar facing the entrance and a comfortable lounge area to the right.
The pub, one of the oldest licensed houses in the town, dates from around 1821 when it was originally called 'The Hen & Chickens' but, after a brief period of decline, it underwent refurbishment and the name was changed in 1987 which is when Simon Clarke took over the license, and brought it back into popularity with a relaxed management style which many local people and day trippers to the town seem to relish.
These days the management is shared with son, Oliver who maintains the friendly atmosphere both inside and out - In the courtyard outside there are seats and tables if you fancy a dose of fresh air with your pint where you can watch the locals and their shopping exploits. You can also savour a range of dishes from a traditional pub menu - the place has a good reputation for steaks! - and there is always a tempting selection of daily specials on the blackboard.
On a historical note, the homebrew that originated here, but which ceased due to rationing in the second world war, when malt and hops were difficult to find, was the second highest gravity in the country at 1060 (6% ABV). Amongst the favourite brews these days is Enville Ale along with Holden's Golden and Abbot Ale.

A sample from our traditional menu:
Goujons of Plaice with chips and peas Prime fillet steak sandwich with onion rings
Deep Fried Scampi Traditional Lasagne
Grilled Gammon with egg or pineapple Homemade Steak & Kidney Pie with puff pastry
Chicken Tikka Masala with rice Mixed Cheese Ploughman's
Fresh Prawn and Egg Salad Sirloin or Fillet Steak with onion rings

...and a tempting selection of desserts

Being a Freehouse, The Friars Inn offers an excellent range of beers, ales and spirits, often offering interesting speciality ales on a guest ale list that seems never-ending: Enville Ale (a permanent guest) Abbot Ale, Holden's Golden and Holden's Special, Timothy Taylor's Landlord, Fuller's ESB and London Pride, Young's Special, the list goes on...
